Appointment Preparation
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR INITIAL
EVALUATION
Things to bring with you on the day of your Initial Evaluation:
Your urine specimen
Lab test results that you may have had in the recent past
A snack and drinking water.
In addition, bring any supplements that you are currently taking,
your hormone creams, any over-the-counter and prescription
medications you are taking (please bring the actual items for all of
these, not just a list of what you are taking). Optional items: your
toothbrush, make-up, etc.
-
Two days before your Initial Evaluation, discontinue ALL mineral,
herbal and vitamin supplements, protein drinks, and probiotic
supplements. If you are taking digestive aids, you may continue
these as long as they do not contain any of the above supplemental
nutrients.
For example: Suppose your Initial Evaluation is on a Tuesday. If
you are taking supplements as part of your normal routine, do not
take any after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
-
The day before your Initial Evaluation, drink lots of pure water!
Finish all of your water no later than 7:30 p.m. the night before
your Initial Evaluation. Here is the formula for "lots of water":
Drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water the day
before your Initial Evaluation.
For example: If you weigh 200 pounds, divide that in half to get
100 pounds.
Then drink 100 fluid ounces of water throughout the day.
-
The night before your Initial Evaluation, finish your dinner no
later than 7:30 p.m., brush your teeth, finish your water, and
then do not put anything in your mouth until after your tests the
following morning. Here are some other do's and don't's:
-Don't eat anything salty for dinner as this will make you
thirsty.
-If you are presently on any type of regular medication (for
example: blood pressure medication or insulin), take your
medication with only a small amount of water.
-Don't put anything in or around your mouth after 8:00 p.m. No
toothpaste, mints, mouthwashes or mouth rinses, or anything else
either at bedtime or the morning of the test. Don't use lipstick,
chapstick, lotion or makeup around your mouth and lips. These
things will significantly alter the results of the test by
changing the chemistry of your mouth.
-Do not put any lotions or creams on your hands, arms, face, legs,
or feet. Do not wear make-up foundation or powder on your face.
You may wear eye make-up if you wish.
-Do not exercise within 6 hours of your arrival time.
-
Collect your first morning urine anytime after 3:00 AM in a clean,
dry jar with a snug-fitting lid. If you live near the clinic, you
can stop in and request a urine cup. One ounce of urine is
sufficient. Try to obtain a midstream specimen, meaning, urinate a
small amount first, then obtain the remaining urine in your cup or
jar. Refrigerate until you are ready to leave for the clinic.
DON'T FORGET YOUR URINE!!!
When you arrive in our office a specimen cup will be given to you to
collect a small amount of saliva. When attempting to accumulate the
saliva, allow it to pool in your mouth, then expectorate.
